The Library as a place of study
The Library of the Institute of Latin American
Studies specialises in social science research and studies
on Latin America. The library is open to the public and its
literature may be borrowed, with the exception of reference books,
journals and certain textbooks. There is the facility to copy and
print in the library and these services must be paid for in
cash.
Borrowing
To borrow books from the Latin American Department Library you
need a library
card from the University Library. More information about loans
can be found under the heading Borrow.
Books and journals not kept at the Latin American Department
Library can be borrowed from other libraries if you are a student,
researcher, lecturer or staff member at Stockholm University. As a
student, you are not eligible for interlibrary loans of material
that is available at another library in the greater Stockholm
area.

You are welcome to send your purchase suggestions to lai@sub.su.se. Indicate the title,
author and publication year, and whether you want to borrow the
book when it arrives. You can also use the form in the right-hand
column to send your suggestions.
Collections Description
The collections include more than 50,000 titles in the areas of
history, politics, economics, anthropology and other social
sciences. There is also a collection of Latin American literature
in the original language. The library also has books on the history
of art, literature and music.
The library has bibliographies, reference books, yearbooks,
statistics and manuals on various topics.
The library has about 400 current or discontinued journals
focusing on Latin America, both scholarly and news-based.
European dissertations, including Swedish ones, on Latin America
can be searched in the REDIAL Tesis database. More recent
dissertations can be found in full text.
