The Library as a place of study

The Geolibrary is a branch library of Stockholm University Library, and primarily provides service to the Departments of Geological Sciences, Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology, Applied Environmental Science and Human Geography. The library has 20 reading places and four group rooms with seating for 3-5 people in each room. The library has 18 computers with word processing and spreadsheet programs and a number of search computers. Computers can be used with a temporary login. The wireless network is available in every part of the Geo building.

The Geolibrary has copiers, scanners and printers which can produce colour printing.

Borrowing

To borrow books from the Geolibrary, you need a library card from the University Library. More information about borrowing can be found under the heading Borrow.

Books and journals not kept at the Geolibrary can be borrowed from other libraries if you are a student, researcher, lecturer or staff member at Stockholm University. As a student, you are not eligible for interlibrary loans of material that is available at a library in the greater Stockholm area.

Read more about Interlibrary loans.

To request an Interlibrary loan you need to log in at the web page. Under Interlibrary loans you will find the request form. Be sure to choose Geolibrary as a pick-up location when you order the book/article.

You are welcome to send your purchase suggestions to geo@sub.su.se. Indicate the author, title, and publication year, and whether you want to borrow the book when it arrives.

Collections Description

The collections include human geography, physical geography, including glaciology and quaternary geology, geology and geochemistry, environment, climate and community planning.

The books are arranged by subject, while journals and series are arranged alphabetically by title.

The Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) is fully represented, with maps and descriptions. A series is available for loan. From 2010, SGU is only available as a digital version.

A large part of the library's collections are in stacks. They can be searched in the blue search box on the library's home page and can be ordered at Geolibrary lending desk.

Most of our journals and new books are now available in electronic format.

The library's book collection contains the set course literature for the earth sciences and geography department's undergraduate levels. The loan period for course literature is 7 days. The course literature is only lent out to students, researchers and lecturers at Stockholm University.
