The Library as a place of study

The Department of Media, Journalism and Communication Library's books are mainly in the areas of journalism, media and communication, although the library also holds literature in other disciplines, as well as a large number of journals.

The Library offers 23 study areas comprising individual and group areas. Five study areas have computers with Internet access. Wireless networking is available throughout the library and there is also a database room for information searches. For copying, there is a printer between the Large and Small editorial departments on level 4.

Borrowing

To borrow books from the Department of Media, Journalism and Communication Library you need a library card from the University Library. More information about loans can be found under the heading Borrow

Books and journals not kept at the Department of Media, Journalism and Communication Library can be borrowed from other libraries if you are a student, researcher, lecturer or staff member at Stockholm University. As a student, you are not eligible for interlibrary loans of material that is available at a library in the greater Stockholm area.

You are welcome to send your purchase suggestions to jmkbiblioteket@sub.su.se. Indicate the author, title, and publication year, and whether you want to borrow the book when it arrives. You can also use the form in the right-hand column to send your suggestions.

Courses

At the beginning of the term, the Department of Media, Journalism and Communication Library gives courses in basic information searching and an introduction to the library. It also provides subject-oriented courses in information searching at C and D levels.

Collections Description

The Department of Media, Journalism and Communication Library has a large number of journals which can be searched in the library catalogue. There is also a large selection of magazines, journals and other periodicals on subjects such as journalistic work. These are not searchable; instead, you are welcome to visit the library.

The Textbook collection consists of the set course literature at undergraduate and postgraduate level. All students at Stockholm University may borrow books from the textbook collection. The library offers weekly lending for each textbook title. Borrowers are responsible for returning books on time and for renewing items borrowed on a weekly basis.

Overdue fines
Weekly lending SEK 10 per day and book.

Essays

With effect from spring 2010, essays in science journalism and media & communication studies are located in DiVA.
