About the Library

Stockholm University Library is one of the largest research libraries in Sweden and one of the most visited cultural institutions in Stockholm, with about 1.8 million visitors every year. The library is a natural meeting point on campus and a key agent of information supply at Stockholm University.

Illustration SaraMarahe aim is for information resources and services to be integrated with and adapted to research and education at the university. Main target groups are students, researchers and teachers at the university. The university library cooperates with other libraries, such as, for example, academic expert libraries in law (national resource libraries) and other agents in surrounding society, for example with the Swedish Publishers' Association within the special area of book market research. The activities are characterised by continuous development and a strong commitment from all employees.

What do we do for...

...all employees and students at Stockholm University?

We ensure that you have access to all scientific literature that you need within the subject areas offered at the university.

We ensure that you have access to electronic information resources such as scientific databases and e-journals - on and off campus.

...you who are a student?

We show you how to find material for your studies, such as books, journals and databases, for example by using the Internet.

We have study places for individual studies or group work at the main library and at branch libraries with access to scientific literature, computers and other items you might need for your studies. In the main library, there is a specially equipped resource room for those with reading problems and a special room for those with allergies.

When you have obtained at least 40 credits, you can rent a locker or a trolley in the main library where you can keep your course literature.

We supply personal support and tools for digital publishing of your C- and D-essays/degree projects/project reports in the database DiVA.

…you who are a researcher/teacher?

We organise courses in scientific communication and dealing with references.

We organise courses for your students, preferably in close cooperation with you who are a teacher in charge of a course.

We provide you with personal support and tools for electronic publishing, distribution and filing of your dissertation and your articles.

What do we do in cooperation with surrounding society?

The university library is a public library where the general public has access to the premises, printed literature and the knowledge of the staff.

Stockholm University Library is part of national and international library networks, which all work for an efficient information supply in society. Stockholm University Library cooperates with municipal libraries, libraries in upper secondary schools, as well as other academic libraries in the Stockholm region.

Moreover, Stockholm University Library cooperates with the Swedish Publishers' Association within the profile area of book market research, which is manifested in the lecture series Adam Helms Lecture, where authors, researchers and representatives of publishing houses participate in a yearly public and well-attended lecture.
